Welcome to Adopt-A-Family!
For many the holiday season is a joyous occasion—spending time with family and friends by sharing a meal or exchanging gifts. While this is true for many, there are people in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. Imagine yourself as a teen mother abandoned by her family and expecting her first child, or a parent working a minimum wage job with four young children and struggling to put food on the table. The Adopt-A-Family program strives to make the holiday season happier for those North State families by providing gifts of clothing, food and toys. In 2016, over 400 families were “adopted” by caring individuals, families and organizations in Butte, Shasta and Tehama counties.

We would like to invite you, your family, friends, church, social group, co-workers or even your child’s school to help us bring the magic back to families and individuals in need this holiday season. All you need is a generous heart, a visit to one of our offices or our website to select a family, and a little extra holiday shopping.

How do I adopt a family?
Families will be available for adoption during the dates listed below. Your identity will not be disclosed to the family you adopt, nor will their identity be disclosed to you. All confidentiality is maintained.

Learn about the family’s circumstances, the number of family members, their ages, gender, clothing sizes and the special gifts needed to brighten the holidays by visiting a county office, or viewing the list online. If you are unable to adopt a family, there are other ways you can help. Cash donations cover the costs of postage and printing, and are pooled with other cash gifts to buy presents for those families who are not adopted. NVCSS will accept donations of new, unwrapped gifts, food baskets, food gift certificates and cash. You can also help by donating your time. We are in need of volunteers to help with shopping for families, wrapping presents and working at the distribution center.

To make a donation, or for more information on the Adopt-A-Family program please contact your county's NVCSS office, or our main office at 2400 Washington Ave, Redding, CA 96001, (530) 241-0552 or (800) 846-1451.
